ROBERT E. DALE SR. 12/14/1925-8/13/2014 On Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Robert E. Dale Sr., in the arms of family, passed from this plain to continue his journey down the trail with his Lord and Savior. He was 88. Robert was born on December 14, 1925, in Evansville, Indiana to William Curtis and Adelia Dale. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and actively served his country aboard the U.S.S. Cowpens CVL 25 for the duration of WWII. He witnessed the surrender of Imperial Japan, as his ship was the first carrier to dock in Tokyo Bay in 1945. He was, and continued to be, a true patriot who loved his country. In later years he attended numerous Navy reunions with former shipmates in Cowpens, South Carolina. Robert graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, with a degree in education. He moved to California and earned his Master's Degree from U.S.C., shortly thereafter he began teaching for the El Segundo Unified School District. He retired in 1984. He moved to the High Desert to spend more time with his three sons (now retired teachers from the Victor Elementary School District) and their families. Robert loved traveling in his motor home. He traveled extensively with his grandchildren to a variety of locations. Durango, CO was a favorite destination. He loved reading novels by Louie L'amour and Zane Grey and explored many antique shops when possible. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Ann. Robert is survived by his three sons; Robert (Gene) Dale and his wife Alice; Leland Dale and his wife Cheryl; Keith Dale and his wife Michelle; nine grandchildren, Tammy Peterson and husband Mike; Michelle Beyer- Dale; Scott Dale and wife Michelle; Leah Shafer and husband Ross; Matthew Dale and wife Nicole; Justin Dale and wife Jeannette; Jeffrey Dale and wife Brandie; Amanda Robinson and husband Bobby; Kierstin Cavazos and husband Carlos; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Ursula Keena and Ruth Bunch, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his dear friend and companion, Evelyn Somers. Visitation will be from 4-6pm, August 27th at Victor Valley Mortuary, 15609 11th Street, Victorville, CA 92395. Graveside services will be 11:31 am, Thursday, August 28th at Riverside National Cemetery, with Pastor Barry officiating. Victor Valley Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
