ROYCE EUGENE AVERY 7/29/1928 – 9/19/2013 Born July 29, 1928 in North Brookfield, NY to Lysle and Ella Avery. Roy was schooled in a one room school house in Waterville, NY and later at Ames College, Iowa. Served in US Army signal corp. as a cryptographer in Korea. Married his soul mate Edythe McCulley in 1953 celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year. He is survived by wife Edythe, two sons George Avery wife Treice of Bloomington, IL with granddaughter Alison her husband Jerry Al-Mufleh of Edmond, OK. Andrew Avery wife Denise with granddaughters Danielle, Katlyn, and Sarah of Apple Valley. Roy worked for Pacific Telephone in Los Angeles before moving to Apple Valley starting with Contel Telephone and retiring in 1991. Roy was a 60 year resident of Apple Valley and active member of his community being a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Amaranth, Eastern Star, Treasure and Trustee of his church, REACT, Four-H instructor, Advisor for DeMolay, Job's Daughters, Toastmasters, Rotary, Apple Valley Swim Team, and Boy Scouts. Roy enjoyed traveling in their RV with his family visiting almost every state and found comfort in his home surrounded by family. Memorial services for family and friends at Sunset Hills Mortuary, Patio, 24000 Waalew Rd., September 30th 2013 at 1:00 pm. Sunset Hills Memorial Park is handling arrangements.
