JOLENE ANN (EHLY) WALDEN 8/9/1929 - 3/22/2014 Jolene Ann (Ehly) Walden, 84, passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side on March 22, 2014. She was born on a farm outside of Claflin, Kansas on August 9, 1929. The youngest in a big Catholic family, Jolene loved telling stories about growing up "on the farm", and loved her parents, her many brothers and sisters and extended Kansas family dearly. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Richard. She embraced her role as a proud military wife and mother, supporting her husband's Air Force and later civilian career, and enjoyed the many places it took them. Most notably, Anchorage, Alaska where they experienced many outdoor adventures and the 9.2 magnitude Great Quake of 1964. In 1967, the family moved to George Air Force Base in Adelanto, California and three years later made a final move to Apple Valley, California. Jolene enjoyed many activities and volunteer work, but it was her role as a mother and homemaker that was to be her life's work. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor, qualities she retained until the very end. Jolene instilled in her children the importance of hard work, family and most importantly, unconditional love, acceptance, grace and kindness. Her children, grand- children and great grandchildren will carry on her legacy and she will be greatly missed by all. She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Richard Walden and her infant daughter Lisa Walden. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Richard Walden, Jr (Cathy) of Lake Villa, Illinois, Mark Walden of Apple Valley, Diane De La Cruz (David) of Apple Valley, Sondra Hartley (Scott) of Camarillo, Kimberly Burnett (Guy) of Apple Valley, Denise Walden Cooper (Kim) of Santa Barbara, thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved Bichon Frise, Zipper. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jolene's longtime caregiver, Lena Manurung and her sister Esther, for their love and devotion. There will be a celebration of Jolene's life on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11AM at Sunset Hills Mortuary in Apple Valley, California.
