Alice Steele Obituary

Alice Pietzsch Steele, 96, died Aug. 30, 2011, at the Courtyard in Hewitt. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park.

Alice was the daughter of the late Edward O. and Selma Rabbe Pietzsch. She was born Nov. 5, 1914, in Crawford, Texas. She and her husband, Wallace Steele, lived on the farm near Taft, Texas, until his passing in 1973. Alice then moved to San Antonio where she lived for 35 years. She moved to Hewitt five years ago to be near family.

Alice loved to travel and during those years she traveled all over the United States and many foreign countries. She was a longtime and active member of Christ Lutheran Church in San Antonio. When she moved to Hewitt she became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Waco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Steele; twin sister, Agnes O. Graham; sister, Aster (Nook) Johnson; and brothers, Robert "Sonny" Pietzsch and Angus "Buddy" Pietzsch.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Elsie Pietzsch of Waco; nieces, Patsy Quinones and husband, Sam, Brenda Crye and husband, Daylon, Diane Jones and husband, Bill, and Sandra Colby; nephews, Bobby Chapman and wife, Eula Jean, Freddy Pietzsch and wife, Carolyn, and Robert Pietzsch and wife, Colette; and numerous great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

The family would like to thank The Courtyard at Hewitt and Providence Hospice for the love and care they gave Alice. She was a loving and caring sister-in-law, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 800 North New Road, Waco, Texas 76710.
