Warren Barton Obituary

Mr. Warren D. Barton, 92, of Waco, completed his earthly journey July 8, 2011, in Waco, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Waco, with Father John Wells officiating and burial to follow in the White Rock Cemetery in Ross, Texas. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.

Warren was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Freeport, Texas, to Anna Jean and Samuel Richard Barton. Warren was educated in Marlin public schools. He entered Texas A & M at age 16. At Texas A & M he was an outstanding student and graduated in 1939. He earned his Law Degree from the University of Texas Law School and earned a Master's degree from Harvard University. He was an oil and gas attorney in Midland for over 30 years and a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Warren served in the Army during World War II as 1st Lieutenant. He crashed an airplane on the runway which ended his Army career. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit. Warren was Past Worshipful Master of Herring Lodge 1224 from June 1999 to June 2000 where he received an endowed membership as well as the Golden Trowel Award. He was also a member of George R. Scott Sojourners, York Rite, and Scottish Rite. His hobby included a rare collection of old coins, paper money and stamps.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Margaret V. Barton of Waco; daughter, Cynthia Ann Bondeson of San Antonio; son, Randy Barton and his wife, Fran, of Houston; two grandchildren, Rebecca Springer and her husband, Paul, of Atlanta, Ga., and Barton Bolfrass and wife, Sarah, of Austin; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit.
