Charles L. Eskew, 85, of Golinda, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at a local hospital. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Waco Memorial Park with the Rev. Morgan Woodard officiating.

Charles was born July 10, 1927, in Mart, to Cyril and Maggie Moses Eskew. He was a graduate of University High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon completion of his military service, Charles returned to Waco to marry the love of his life, Betty Joyce Thompson, and they were blessed with three children and 61 years of marriage. They are members of Golinda First Baptist Church.

Charles was employed with Owen Illinois Glass Company for 33 years. After retirement, he greatly enjoyed his hobby of woodworking and selling his handcrafted clocks at shows throughout Texas. Charles always looked forward to weekly breakfast with special friends, the Purczinskys, Koerths, Feltys, and Glynn Hall.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Bobbie Eskew Schultz.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Steve Eskew and wife, Pam, and Mike Eskew and wife, Susan; daughter, Shawna Birkes and husband, Stanley; granddaughters, Amanda Stewart and husband, Mark, Kim Eskew, and Kristin Kegley and husband, Trey; grandsons, Scott Eskew and wife, Courtney, Nathan Birkes and wife, Courtney, and David Birkes and wife, Jessika; and great-grandchildren, Clayton and Zach Stewart, Dylan and Hayden Birkes, Skye and Seeley Birkes, and William Scott Eskew, due in May.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Providence nursing and hospice staff for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Golinda, 7140 Golinda Drive, Lorena, Texas, 76655.
