Damiano Puleo Obituary
Mr. Damiano Puleo, of Waltham, died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. He was 89. Damiano was born in Palermo, Sicily on August 19, 1924, a son of the late Calogero and Giuseppina (Natale) Puleo. He moved to the United States in 1967 and a year later married Antonietta Girardi and the couple made their home in Waltham. Until his retirement Damiano worked as a welder for Barry Controls in Watertown. He took great care of his home, especially his bountiful garden. He also became a skilled winemaker and always enjoyed visits by his family from Sicily, becoming the family tour guide to destinations on the Cape and the North Shore. Damiano's wife, Antonietta, died March 6, 2009. He leaves his brother, Calogero Puleo and his wife, Anna, of Milan, Italy and his cousins, Marianne Merola and Dr. Henry Merola and his wife, Rosemary, all of Waltham and several nieces and nephews. Damiano was also a brother of the late Giuseppe Puleo and Philomena Puleo and a cousin of the late Joseph and Anthony Merola. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 30th, in Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham. Entombment followed in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham.
