Clark Elliott Obituary

Clark A. Elliott of Waltham, formerly of Belmont Feb. 1, 2014. Beloved husband of Priscilla Elliott (Jordan). Loving father of Andrew J. Elliott and his wife Amie of Evanston, Ill. and Glenn P. Elliott of Mckinleyville, CA. Brother of Gwendolyn Cornelius of Omaha, NE. and the late Frederick L. Elliott. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Clark A. Elliott was born in Ware, Mass. in 1941, the second of three children of Leroy and Bertha (Lyons) Elliott. He graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School, and went on to Marietta College before receiving graduate degrees in library and information sciences and in history from Case Western Reserve University. At Marietta, Clark met and fell in love with Priscilla Jordan of Bridgewater, who became his wife and partner. For many years he enjoyed a rewarding career as Associate Curator of the Harvard University Archives. Clark was passionate about the world of science and about the people who enable its advancement, and his contributions to archival and historical literature include Biographical Dictionary of American Science, and Thaddeus William Harris: Nature, Science, and Society in the Life of an American Naturalist. He felt that the study of nature opens a window to human spirituality, and that the lives of scientists hold lessons for everyone who wonders about their own place in the universe. After retiring from Harvard in 1997, Clark went on to head the Burndy Library at the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology in Cambridge. In his spare time he enjoyed biking, long walks, reading and writing poetry, and th fellowship of his church and family. A funeral service was held at the Payson Park Congregational Church 365 Belmont Street, Belmont on Saturday Feb. 8 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends were invited. A private interment will be held at the Highland Meadow Cemetery, Belmont. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the History of Science News and Views, Newsletter 440 Geddes Hall University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN. 46556.
