Herman A. Engemann, 93, Marthasville, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Herman, son of the late John Engemann and wife Anna, nee Nieder, was born April 19, 1920, in Marthasville. He was united in marriage to Rose Mary Roehrig Nov. 15, 1950, in Dutzow. Together, they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Herman served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded three Bronze Stars after serving in the liberation of the Philippines, the Bismarck Arch and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign. He was a carpenter and member of the local carpenters union. He retired from Allied Builders in 1985. Herman also was a member and former commander of American Legion Post 180, Marthasville, and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Dutzow.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Engemann; parents, John and Anna Engemann; five sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by three sons, David Engemann and wife Debbie, and John Engemann and wife Julie, all of Marthasville, and Carl Engemann and wife Mechelle, Atlanta, Ga.; four daughters, Christine Harris and husband Wayne, Chicago, Ill., Dolores Henderson, Tallahassee, Fla., Teresa Volkerding and husband Mike, and Jennifer Engemann, all of Marthasville; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Martin Funeral Home, Marthas-ville.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Dutzow.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
