Beatrice Watts Obituary
Beatrice "Irene" Watts, 96, Jonesburg, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Jonesburg Nursing and Care Center, Jonesburg.

Irene was born Nov. 30, 1917, the daughter of Clarence M. Briggs and wife Lena Mae Pearl, nee Murphy. She was the eldest daughter of seven children.

On June 24, 1939, Irene was united in marriage to Charles E. Watts, and to this union were born three children, Charlotte, Margaret and Charles.

Irene, as she was known, lived most of her life as a homemaker and a farmer's wife, in rural Hunnewell. Her hobbies were cake decorating and painting, both of which were self-taught. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. Irene's passion was loving people and, of course, her family, extended family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Irene was loved by many and was called "Grandma Watts" by many all over the United States and in other parts of the world. She was known for her letters to college students, encouraging them as they studied and including a "love dollar" in each letter.

Faith and church were very important to Irene. She was a member of Prairie View Baptist Church, Hunnewell, and while living in Warrenton, she attended Warrenton Baptist Church.

Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Charles Watts; her parents, Clarence M. and Lena Mae Pearl Briggs; three brothers, Eugene, Victor and Harold Briggs and their spouses; and two sisters, Elsie Lashbrook, nee Briggs, and Mary Rogers, nee Briggs, and their spouses.

She is survived by her three children, Charlotte J. Bradshaw, nee Watts, and husband Don, Margaret Gregory, nee Watts, and husband Richard, and Charles Watts and wife Karen; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Finney; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was held Friday, May 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, 510 E. Main St., Warrenton, MO 63383.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at Garner Funeral Home, 315 N. Vine St., Monroe City, MO 63456.

Burial followed at Prairie View Baptist Church Cemetery in Hunnewell.

Memorial donations may be made to Prairie View Baptist Church or to Shiloh Christian Children's Ranch, in care of Martin Funeral Home.

The family of Beatrice Irene Watts entrusted Marin Funeral Home with her care, www.martinfuneral.net.
