JOHN K. CARNEY Col, USAF (Ret.)
On Saturday, March 17, 2012. Beloved husband of Adelle (nee Wright); devoted father of Constance Bedell, Bernadine O'Hare, Deborah Fowler, Catherine Carney, Daniel Carney and Patrick Carney. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday, March 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the DEMAINE FUNERAL HOME, Backlick Road, Springfield, VA with prayer service in the evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 23, 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will be held a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Divine Word Missionaries, 1835 Waukegan Road, Techny, Illinois 60082, or a charity of the donor's choice.www.demainefunerals.com

We will all miss Uncle Johnny, his quick wit and love of family. He loved Southern fried foods, especially Big Mama's corn bread. He sent me a note last year for "Adams Meal" and Big Mama's recipe. Recently he called just to check on us and shared his memories of fried catfish and travels down home. Some of my fondest memories are of trips to visit the "Carney's" with mama (big mama) and daddy (big daddy).
