  MARY ANN KASZAS (Age 99)   Of Silver Spring, MD and previously of Arlington, VA died on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Born September 20, 1916, in Farrell, PA, she worked for AAA from 1951 until her retirement in 1981. Mary was the devoted wife of the late Ernest Kaszas, whom she married on September 2, 1959, and who died on January 17, 1977; sister of Ann St. Armand of Falls Church, VA, and Margaret Kavulla of Hermitage, PA. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a great-grandnephew. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Saint Camillus Church, 1600 St. Camillus Dr., Silver Spring, MD.   BIRUTA KELLY (Age 63)   Of Alexandria, VA passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. She is survived by husband Michael; children Ilona, Andrius, and Livija; and grandson, Leonidas. A remarkable woman of many talents, her family and friends are thankful for the wonderful times they had with her and, most importantly, for the many gifts she gave with her guidance, her charm, her gentle spirit, and her love. He retired from WSSC in 2009 and was a beloved Coach of a local Washington, DC, girls basketball team, "Team Unique". Lansdale, Charles Alfred "Tip"  
LANSDALE Charles Alfred Lansdale Chief Petty Officer Charles Alfred "Tip" Lansdale, USN (Ret.) died at Medstar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney, MD on June 19, 2016 following a short illness. He was 94 years old. Tip was born in Washington, DC on February 6 1922 to Gladys and Francis Lansdale. He joined the Navy in February 1940 and saw extensive action during WWII, in both the Pacific and European theatres. He survived the sinking of his ship the USS Colhoun in Aug 1942 off Guadalcanal, and made numerous transatlantic crossings under U-boat threat. In 1946 he wed the love of his life, Anna Reed, with whom he had 3 children and remained married to for 66 years until her passing in 2013. Following WWII, Tip remained in the Navy and was stationed throughout the United Sates, becoming heavily involved in early Navy missile testing. His last years on active duty were spent working on the Polaris Missile system. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1960, Tip continued working on that system as a senior engineer with the Vitro Corporation in Rockville, MD until his full retirement in 1985. He was a proud member of both the American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister, Margaret Powers and brothers, Francis and Walter Lansdale. He is survived by his three children, Cathy Judge (Bruce), Carole Noyes (John-deceased) and Francis Lansdale (Gabrielle-deceased); as well as three grandchildren, Scott Lansdale, Matthew and Alex Noyes. There will be a visitation at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Rd., Gaithersburg, MD from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday June 29 and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Catholic Church, 12701 Viers Mill Rd, Rockville Md at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 30. Tip will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tip''s name to the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment. LOONEY, IDA RUTH  
  IDA RUTH LOONEY   Ida Ruth Looney, beloved wife and mother, homemaker, devout Christian, and world traveler, died at the age of eighty-nine on June 1, 2016. Born Ida Ruth Courtright on January 21, 1927, near MacDonald in Rawlins County, Kansas, the daughter of Richard Tracy Courtright and Alfaretta Bartholomew Courtright, she excelled academically, attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, and later graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park. In Lawrence she met the love of her life, Chesley Hall Looney, an electrical engineer and space scientist whom she married on February 14, 1950, and with whom she shared 66 years of unalloyed happiness. After one year in Kansas City, Ruth moved to Maryland with Ches and began a family. She is survived by her husband and all five of her children, Chesley Howard, Richard Glen, John Jefferson, Andrew James, and Kathleen Ruth, as well as four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth (Shriner), Eric Chesley, James Jefferson, and Sharon Abigail, and three Shriner great-grandchildren, Abigail Mae, Matthew Robert, and Nathan Gabriel. She is also survived by one sibling, William Courtright, and many devoted friends and relatives. Ruth loved life, babies, animals, gardening, both of her alma maters, Washington''s sports teams, reading, Scrabble, Shakespeare, opera, and Irish folk music. She loved to travel and with Ches achieved a lifelong ambition of visiting all seven continents. A den mother and longstanding member of the League of Women Voters, she was a much-loved parishioner and choir singer at University Christian Church. A memorial service and celebration of Ruth''s life will be held at University Christian Church, 6800 Adelphi Rd, Hyattsville, MD 20782, Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 2 PM, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to University Christian Church.
