    JERMAINE CONTEE "CJ"   On December 5, 2014. Born September 23, 1972, the son of the late Mary Woolard and Francis Contee. He attended DC public schools, Ballou Senior High School in Washington, DC then attended Shaw University located in North Carolina receiving his bachelors in Marketing and then on to receive his Masters from Strayer University. Jermaine was a dedicated employee to Weststar Mortgage for over 10 years building many friends whom he looked at as family. Jermaine was always the life of the party and enjoyed singing. He loved water and watching the waves. He also enjoyed outings such as shopping, fishing, family gathering and traveling. His smile and unique charm will be truly missed. Visitation for CJ will be on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 18410 Chapel Rd., Triangle, VA. Burial will follow the services in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA

Cooper, Berlon Leon  
  BERLON LEON COOPER (Age 73)   On December 5, 2014. Loving husband for 53 years of the late Peggy Lois Glascock Cooper. Berlon joined the Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department in 1960 and became a life member in 1985. He worked for the Bureau of Engraving for many years. Devoted father of Glenda, Kim, Dawn and the late Debbie Dodson. Also survived by nieces he raised as daughters, Gail and Chrissy, brother Clyde B. Cooper, Jr., 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A gathering will be held on Thursday, December 18 from 10 a.m. until service of celebration at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God, 7800 Good Luck Road, Lanham, MD 20706.     JACK LOWELL COOPER (Age 80)   On December, 7, 2014 Jack L Cooper died of injuries suffered at home in McLean VA. Dear Husband for 57 years of Mary Ann Stabile Cooper, Father of Claudia Cooper Koenig of Fredericksburg VA; grandfather of David Scott Gallegos of Miami , Florida and Matthew David Gallegos of Fredericksburg, VA. Graduated, Curtis Institute of Music Philadelphia, PA, accomplished Trombonist in the U.S. Army Band, Ft. Myer, VA, Conductor, Washington Brass Choir, Trombonist in the Washington National Symphony Orchestra, Music Director at Bishop Denis J. O'Connel High School where he developed the Catholic school music program, Chairman, music department, Alverno College Milwaukee WI. Academic Administrator of Music, University of Maryland, Made Faculty Appointments for The Guarneri String Quartet in 1982. Upon retiring after 25 years of service, Jack was an avid carpenter, Civil War enthusiast and had a great passion for cooking. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 12 at The Cathedral of St Thomas More in Arlington, VA. Reception to follow.

COVELL, BETTY V.  
    BETTY VERNON COVELL (Age 87)   On Tuesday, December 9, 2014, of Laurel, MD died at Arden Courts Nursing Home, Silver Spring, MD. Daughter of Howard Covell, the former Deputy Chief of Police of the District of Columbia, Ethel Mae Steinwedel of Baltimore, MD. Betty graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, DC. Later, she worked for 35 years at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory in White Oak, MD, until her retirement in 1983. She then spent her later years traveling which she enjoyed a great deal. She was also predeceased by her longtime companion, William "Bill" Barnum and step-mother, Mary W. Covell. Visitation, Saturday, December 20 from 10 a.m. until Service at 12 noon at Cedar Hill Funeral Home, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave., Suitland, MD. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

  HANDY TRUITT COWAN   Died on December 13, 2014. Handy was born April 28, 1929 in Bowie, MD. He graduated from Laurel High School. He worked and retired from C & P, and later worked for PGC Park and Planning. Handy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Cowan; sons Mark (Sandy) and Oden (Zara); grandsons Nick, Daniel and Matthew; grand-daughters Lee (Andrew) and Mikayla. He was also blessed by seven great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD from 3 to 7 pm, Wednesday, December 17, 2014 where a funeral service will be held 12 noon, Thursday, December 18, 2014. D'ANGELO, ROSE MARIE  
MERRITT ROSE MARIE D'ANGELO MERRITT Departed this life on Friday, December 5, 2014. Born on June 25, 1917 to Filomena and Thomas D'Angelo, Rose was the beloved wife of the late COL Harrison John Merritt USA (Ret.). As the spouse of a career military officer, she expertly navigated numerous family moves, which included stateside tours in Fort Bragg, NC, Fort Benning, GA, Leavenworth, KS, Arlington, VA, and Washington, DC, and overseas assignments in Germany, Japan, and Burma. Rose was a lifelong learner who immersed herself in mastering the art of Ikebana Flower Arranging, Sumi-e East Asian Brush Painting, Kimekomi carved doll-making, keyboard pedagogy, golf, tennis, and Contract Bridge. She generously donated her time as a Red Cross Volunteer, Girl Scout Leader, and Board Member of numerous Officer's Wives and International Wives Club organizations. Upon her husband's retirement from the military, Rose opened a private piano teaching studio in her home where she taught numerous elementary school children. She is survived by one daughter, Donna Merritt Garlick, her husband Richard E. Garlick, Jr., two grandsons, Richard E. Garlick III, and his wife Shelby Hughes Garlick, and CAPT Harrison Merritt Garlick USAF; one great grandson, Benjamin Lincoln Garlick; two sisters, Ethel D'Angelo Wynn, and her husband Raymond Wynn, and Janice D'Angelo Dietrich; one brother, Thomas D'Angelo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rose is predeceased by one sister, Mary D'Angelo Cutler, and one grandson, John Merritt Garlick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 62 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Graciously serving as pall bearers are relatives and friends of Rose: Richard Garlick III, Harrison Garlick, David O'Connell, George Sigut, Robert Barody, and Paul Wakely. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls, NY at a later date. Local arrangements are under the direction of Radloff Funeral Home, 136 Warren St., Glens Falls, NY. D'EUGENIO, MICHAEL J. - Manassas  
  MICHAEL J. D'EUGENIO   Michael Joseph D'Eugenio, 63, of Manassas, VA passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Novant Health Prince William Medical Center.   He was born on March 21, 1951 in New Haven, CT the son of the late Salvatore and Agnes D'Eugenio. He worked four years with the FBI, followed by ten years at Lockheed in Sunnyvale, CA; before relocating to the DC area as an IT Specialist for the State Department. Michael loved learning new technologies, and keeping his family up to date on the latest software.   Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce E. (Cernoch) D'Eugenio; two daughters, Jennifer A. D'Eugenio of Savannah, GA and Sara M. D'Eugenio of Seattle, WA; brother, David D'Eugenio and wife Holly; sister, Sallyann Matteis, and John.   The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2014 at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Rd., Manassas, VA. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens.   In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network ( pancan.org ).

DALTON, BRENDA A.  
    BRENDA AGNES DALTON (Age 64)   Of King George County passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia.   Born on February 7, 1950, in Washington, D.C. to Thomas J. Flynn, Jr. and Rita Conlon Flynn, Brenda lived her entire life in the Washington, D.C. area. She was raised in Alexandria, Virginia, and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Washington, D.C. She was employed at the United Association of Plumbers, Fitters and Welders in Washington, D.C., beginning December 15, 1969 until her retirement to King George in May of 2007. Brenda was beloved at UA during her long career there and is remembered for her dedication and faithful representation of union workers as Shop Steward.   Brenda will be dearly missed by her husband, Donald Dalton of King George, step-daughter Ashley Dalton-Johnson, her grandchildren Kandace and William, and her extended loving family, her mother Rita E. Flynn of Alexandria, VA; her brothers Thomas J. Flynn III (Dana) of Baton Rouge, LA, Joseph P. Flynn (Linda) of Alexandria, Virginia, Stephen J. Flynn (Jacki Maxwell) of Alexandria, Terrance P. Flynn (Janis) of Woodbridge, VA, Timothy A. Flynn (Linda) of Alexandria and Jude T. Flynn (Erica) of Alexandria; her sisters Eileen M. Brackens (Bob), Loretta J. King (Rick) of Bryans Road, MD, Deidre H. Ferro (John) of Fredericksburg, VA and Joanna C. Bryant (Wayne) of Fairfax, VA, as well as so many more loving nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and countless life-long friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas J. Flynn, Jr. and brothers Jerome and Leo Flynn of Alexandra, VA.   Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday December 21 at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 22 at 1 p.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church, Alexandria, VA. Interment will be private.
