On Sunday, June 10, 2013 our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend peacefully passed away. Born on November 20, 1936, Barbara was a proud third generation Washingtonian. She dedicated herself to the pursuit of education throughout her life and received a degree from Washington D.C. Teacher's College. She worked for the Peace Corps, Inter-American Foundation, and the Department of the Army and retired as a Senior Personnel Advisor for the Army in Europe. During her long and distinguished career with the Army, Barbara was the recipient of many prestigious awards. Barbara loved to read, listen to music, and attend the theater and symphony at the Kennedy Center.
She was previously married to Franklin P. Jackson of Washington, DC. She is survived by her daughter, Rae Carole J. Tekeste Mincey and her husband Will Mincey (Alexandria, Virginia), granddaughters Lauren Tekeste (Fairfax, VA) and Sarah Tekeste (Salem, NC), brother George W. Stockton Jr. and his wife Julia (Bowie, MD), niece Christina (Hector) Oscanoa and their daughter Juliana (Finksburg, MD) and many loving and dear friends. She was predeceased by her father George William Stockton Sr. and mother Argean "Mimi" Warf Stockton (Washington, DC).
A memorial service will take place June 15 at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 6219 Villa Street in Alexandria, Virginia.
