Carmela "Millie" Alicona


Died peacefully with her family by her side on February 2, 2003. She was a loving mother to, and is survived by, Marianne Alicona of Vienna, VA, Bernardine Alicona of Rye Brook, NY and Eugene Alicona of Weatogue, CT. She was a doting grandmother to Cara Mazella, Michael Alicona, Matthew Alicona and Mary Beth Alicona. She was predeceased by her husband Louis and brothers Matthew Mangiameli and James Mangiameli. She is survived by two sisters, Anne Loiacono of Suffern, NY and Josephine Cappello of Toms River NJ, as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will miss her greatly. Mrs. Alicona, who was physically challenged since birth, was a volunteer fundraiser for the March of Dimes for 35 years. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Wanamaker and Carlough, 177 Rte. 59, Suffern, NY. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Suffern, NY. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, 2700 S. Quincy St., Ste. 220, Arlington, VA 22206; or the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Dr., Kingston, NY 12401.
