CHARLES H. WEST
A retired engineer for the National Security Agency (NSA) and a resident of Northwest Washington for more than 50 years, died August 6, 2013 at Suburban Hospital. He was 83.
A native of Springfield, Illinois, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin
at Madison and was recruited his senior year by NSA and brought to Washington. He retired from NSA, and afterwards consulted with the Goddard Space Flight Center for 10 years.
Mr. West was a deacon and a member of the board of trustees at the Georgetown Presbyterian Church and active in community affairs in Northwest DC., especially at the parents' organization of the Lafayette Elementary School and the Field School and with the Democratic Party in Pct. 51 in Chevy Chase, DC.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Chevy Chase, DC; a son, Mitchell West, Columbia, SC.; brothers, Dirk West, Santa Cruz, CA. and David West, Seattle, WA.
A late September memorial service is planned.
