Rear Admiral FRANK C. COLLINS, JR.  

Rear Admiral Frank Charles Collins, Jr. was born in El Paso, Texas October 29, 1927 to Reverend Frank C. and Lucile Collins. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 23, 2013 in San Diego, California.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 in 1945. He received his Bachelors degree from Louisiana State University in 1950 and was a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College in 1965. He was recalled for the Korean War and attended Officer Candidate School in Newport where he received his Officer's Commission. He had an exceptional career and was selected for Flag rank in 1978. Career highlights included: tours of duty in Vietnam, numerous Westpac deployments and a tour in Iran upon his promotion to Admiral. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Rear Admiral in August 1983 after proudly serving his country for 33 years.
Survivors include his beloved bride of 65 years, Esther Frances Shiell; seven children, Lucy Silveira, Sue Hekman, Francene Green, Virginia Friesen, Melissa Collins, Laura Leach and Frank C. Collins, III; 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery on January 8, 2014.
His love for Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life both personally and professionally and he lived out his faith on a daily basis. A memorial fund has been established in his name at Immanuel Bible Church (6911 Braddock Road, Springfield, Virginia 22151).
