Georgia Ruhl Bowes, "Gigi", age 71, succumbed on Monday, July 8, 2013, to complications of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Her husband, Steve, was at her bedside in her final hours. As had been hoped and prayed for, her passing was peaceful, painless and at home at The Fairfax, a senior retirement community in Fort Belvoir, VA. During her last days, Gigi was visited by sons, John and Steve; grandchildren, Emma, Luke, Kasey, and Chloe and great-grandson, Kaleb. A registered nurse for 50 years, there was no cause in Gigi's life more important than caring for others; she was the ultimate caregiver and friend. Gigi will be remembered by the many who knew and loved her and who were cared for and loved by her for her bright spirit, compassion, wisdom and energy. Plans for a memorial service celebrating Gigi's life and for the interment of her ashes at Arlington National Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
