JACQUI BARRON PHILLIPS
Jacqui Barrón Phillips, of Gaithersburg, MD, died on March 19, 2013 after a two-year battle with breast cancer
. She was 48. Jacqui was born on November 2, 1964 in Glendale, California. After moving to Maryland in 1970, she attended Holy Cross Elementary School and Woodward High School. In 1998, she married Gerard Phillips and together they raised Gerard's son and daughter, Justin and Brittany. Jacqui earned a bachelor's degree in English from Towson State University in 2003 and a master's degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2009. In 2003, she was certified as a secondary education teacher and dedicated herself to her English students at Wheaton High School from then until her death. Jacqui loved the art of teaching and believed it was a great honor to inspire young people to reach high and go far. As she wrote to one class, "you ARE and you WILL and you CAN and you COUNT." Jacqui is survived by her husband Gerard, her stepdaughter Brittany and granddaughter Olivia; her parents Dr. and Mrs. Jose and Cecilia Barrón; her sister Cece, her brother Eric, her goddaughters Camille and Madeline; her nieces Tikva and Kate, and her nephews Kevin, Scott, Ben, Michael, Seth, Jonah, and Danny. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Derwood at 10 a.m. TODAY, March 22, 2013, and all are welcome to join the family thereafter for a reception in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made in Jacqui's name to the Montgomery Hospice at Casey House in Derwood, whose staff lovingly cared for Jacqui in her final days.
