Wife of the late Robert Whitelaw Wilson, died February 5, 2013 in Williamsburg, VA at the age of 103.
Mrs. Wilson, who lived in Washington, DC for 55 years before moving to Virginia in 1986, was born in Briarcliff Manor, NY, daughter of Walter Butler Mahony and Mary Murray Butler Mahony.
During her years in Washington, Mrs. Wilson was an active volunteer serving on various Community Agency Boards: The Council of Social Agencies, the D.C. Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Junior League of Washington and Travelers Aid. From 1952 - 1960, she served as National Director, Office of Volunteers, of the American Red Cross.
Mrs. Wilson was always interested in education. She was chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Potomac School at the time the new site was selected in McLean, Va. She also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Madeira School in Greenway, Virginia. She was a 1930 graduate of Smith College in Northampton, MA, was President of the Smith College Club of Washington, President of the Alumnae Association of Smith College and was a member of the Smith College Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Wilson was a member, and President, of the Sulgrave Club of Washington, DC and a member of the Chevy Chase Club, Chevy Chase, MD.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Duryea Morton of Williamsburg, VA; two step-grandchildren, David Morton of Mount Pleasant, SC and Leslie Morton of Lewisville, TX; two step-great-grandsons, eight nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 16 at Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. Interment will take place at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, NY, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Potomac School, 1301 Potomac School Road, McLean, VA 22101, for the benefit of the Environmental Sustainability Program.
