CDR JAY M. SNYDER, USCG, (Retired)  

Age 66, died February 11, 2014 in Kirkland, Wa., after a 25-year battle with renal cell cancer. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 43 years, Jane Snyder; his son, Kirk Snyder; his daughter Hellie Walter and son-in-law Drew; and his grandchildren, Mathias and Mackenzie. His passing is also mourned by extended family and good friends.
A graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, Mr. Snyder earned a second degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois, and a Masters of Public Administration at California State University, Long Beach. He was a licensed professional engineer and served 21 years in the U.S. Coast Guard before embarking on a career in local government in Loudoun County, Virginia. He retired as Director of General Services in 2011.
Mr. Snyder was a faithful member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Reston, Virginia, where he served for several years on the finance committee and was a beloved member of the choir. He loved music, genealogy, Scrabble, and Sudoku. He cheered for the Mariners and the Nationals in good years and bad. He laughed daily and loved deeply.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, VA. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, Development Office, 2200 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19806, or the , P.O.
