To Kathleen, Mary and all of Joan's family: We were heartbroken to learn of Joan's passing, and we are very sorry that we were both away from Washington at the time of her memorial Mass, or we would absolutely have been there. Joan was a dear lady and a wonderful next-door neighbor for the almost 12 years it was our pleasure to have lived beside her. We will truly miss seeing her on her daily walks, or tending to the beautiful garden she planted between our houses, or just chatting on the front stoop. She was part of what made Fairlington our home, and we will never forget her.
