Passed away on February 19, 2013 at his home in Fort Lauderdale. He was a Washington, DC resident for 50 years before moving to Florida. Until 1980, John was co-owner of a fine men's clothing store chain, with locations in Maryland and D.C. The well-known Powers & Goode haberdashery opened in 1955 and outfitted congressmen, senators, lobbyists, college students & businessmen. John was born in Raleigh and grew up near Mt. Olive, NC. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was in the Social List of Washington for many years and President of the College Park, MD Board of Trade from 1968-69. John is survived by his sister Juanita Kornegay, sister-in-law Judy Goode, many nieces and nephews, and his friend of 30 years Kenneth Harrison. Private services to be held at Arlington Cemetery.
