LINDA A.M. FAY



FAY LINDA ANNE MARTINDALE FAY "Lee" On September 30, 2013, LINDA "LEE" ANNE MARTINDALE FAY, passed away at Georgetown University Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Haupt of Arlington, VA, her son Derick Fay of Riverside, CA, and her brothers Kevin Martindale of Urbana, IL, and Robert Martindale of Spokane, WA. The daughter of a Foreign Service Officer, Linda was born in Chicago, IL, on November 28, 1947, and spent much of her childhood outside the United States, in Europe and Southeast Asia. At age 16, while living in Malaysia, she was injured in a car accident and became paraplegic. While hospitalized, she completed her high school education by correspondence, and enrolled at the University of Illinois in September 1966. She returned to college at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in September 1976, while living in Danvers, MA. She graduated with a B.A. with distinction in Biology in June 1979. She received the John F. Kennedy Award for Academic Excellence from U. Mass. She continued her education at Harvard Medical School, where she was the first student in a wheelchair to be admitted, and graduated in 1983. She completed her Internship at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester in 1984, and her Residency at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC in 1986. From 1986 to 2008, she practiced medicine, with a specialty in Family Practice, at various locations around the greater Washington area, including Park West Medical Center in Baltimore, Kaiser Permanente in Falls Church, VA, and Georgetown University Health Services. She also taught at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She was a long-time member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 5, at St. George's Episcopal Church, 915 N. Oakland St., Arlington, VA at 11 a.m. A reception will follow. Interment will take place at Saturday 2 p.m. at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Linda's name may be made to Partners in Health or St. George's Episcopal Church.She was a long-time member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA.
