MARY JEAN EVANS  

On June 9, 2013, at her home in Washington, DC. Born in Wauwatosa, WI, daughter of the late Kirk and Kathryn Bates. Beloved mother of Molly (Brian Cohen), Kirk (Edie) and Max (Amy) Evans; sister of Cynthia Bates (Ronald) Schaefer; grandmother of Mara and Will Evans, Sam and Henry Cohen, and Hannah and Eliza Evans. She is also survived by niece Alexandra (Eric) Karvala and nephew Eric (Rhonda) Schaefer and great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as best friend of 60 years, Dotty Billings. She studied anthropology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and Columbia University, and social work at Catholic University. Mary Jean was a licensed clinical social worker with Arlington County for 30+ years and dedicated her career to helping troubled children. She had a deep and abiding faith and was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Arlington and Crossroads at St. Luke's Mission Center in DC.
 
Mary Jean loved travel and her growing family, who will dearly miss her love, humor and generous spirit. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 18, Central United Methodist Church, 4201 Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA 22203.
