1940 - 2013

Dr. Myron R. Hafetz, a respected psychologist who lived in College Park, Maryland, passed away on July 12, 2013. He was 72, and beloved for his incisive intellect, deep compassion, and sly wit.
Dr. Hafetz grew up in Trenton, and received his Ph.D from the University of Maryland. For years, he treated children, adolescent and adult patients, and provided expert opinions in custody cases and other matters. Dr. Hafetz also worked for many years at a Washington clinic serving foster
children, and supervised medical and graduate students at area universities.
Dr. Hafetz also was a dedicated Holocaust scholar and a playwright. His latest work, Anna Freud at the Hotel Regina, a
fictionalized account of Anna Freud's return to Vienna decades after her interrogation there by the Gestapo, was staged in May at the Austrian Embassy. The play received an enthusiastic reception at an event that Dr. Hafetz described as a "magical night."
Dr. Hafetz will be dearly missed by his brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Myra Hafetz, of Larchmont, NY, as well as by four nephews, two grand-nephews, and close friends, including Judy Asner.
Dr. Hafetz is being buried today at noon at Orland's Ewing Chapel in Ewing Township, New Jersey.
A memorial service for Dr. Hafetz will be held in the Washington area in mid-September. For information, please email:
