ALURRALDE NELLY ESTHER GARCIA DIEZ DE ALURRALDE Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, in Chevy Chase, MD. Beloved widow of Ricardo Augusto Jose Alurralde, loving mother of Gabriela Alurralde Smith (Douglas) and Marcela Alurralde (Christopher Crespi); loving grandmother of Adrianna, Brendon, Victoria, Emmelin, Mariel, Wyatt and Christian. Also survived by many other loving family and friends. Born in Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina, on August 21, 1927. Daughter of European immigrants, she lived by the core values of love and loyalty to family, at the heart of her Spanish heritage. She learned the value of hard work and education very early on, and from a young age was instrumental in running the family business, all the while finishing high school and then nursing school. She excelled as a surgical nurse and for years volunteered fulltime to help the local hospital. She met her beloved husband Ricardo in Bahia Blanca and got married in 1959. She devoted her life to him and her daughters, Gabriela and Marcela, and their families. She adored her granchildren. She had tremendous fortitude, faith, and strength of spirit. She was a gifted chef and craft artist. Her wittiness, intelligence, and sense of humor were disarming, she said what she thought, and lived life with fierce love and strength of character. With her loving husband of 52 years she resided in California and Washington, DC. Since the moment they met they spent their lives together and lived the sacred promise ... To be true to each other in good times and bad, in sickness and in heath, loving and honoring each other every day of their lives. And so they did, and they are together again now in the presence of the lord. We miss them dearly, but their spirit remains stronger and will be with us until we see them again. Friends will be received at Pumphrey's Bethesda-Chevy Chase Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, MD 20814, on Saturday, October 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda, MD 20816, on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 12 noon.
