PHILIP SHERIDAN  

Philip Harold Sheridan died peacefully at home on November 3, 2013. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on August 6, 1933, to Phil and Hazel Sheridan. Phil was predeceased by his sister Mary Lois Trexler of Pittsburgh, PA. Phil is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janet Murray Sheridan, brother Richard B, Sheridan (Carolyn)of Bethel Park, PA six children and their spouses Larry (Lisa), Tim (Lisa), Sue (Brian) Boscolo, Ann (Steve) Larson, Dan (Mary Beth), and Mary (Matt) Czlonka and 16 grandchildren, Lily, Riley, Molly, Tony, Bridget, Shannon, Nicholas, Kelly, Joe, Scott, Sean, Fiona, Caitlin, James, Patrick, and David. Phil grew up in Cresson, PA and graduated from Cresson High in 1951. He went to Slippery Rock State Teachers College. Then he received his Masters from The University of Minnesota, served two years in the United States Army and received his Doctorate in Public School Administration from Michigan State. He moved to Kensington, MD, in 1961, and attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Phil had a 30-year career in education in Montgomery County schools first as a Math teacher and then as Principal of Herbert Hoover Junior High. After retiring from Montgomery County Public Schools, he worked for 15 years as a Math teacher and Principal of St. Elizabeth's Catholic grade school in Rockville, MD. His career in education spanned 50 years and he touched the lives of many students and teachers. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church, 9705 Summit Ave, Kensington, MD, on Friday, November 8, at 10 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
