Passed away on December 31, 2013 after a long struggle with chronic illness. His wife and middle son were at his side as he moved on to eternal life. Phil was the son of Robert Oliver O'Hara and Elsie Franck O'Hara Stout and grew
up in Delmar, NY. After graduating from Bethlehem Central High School he attended Dartmouth College, Drew Theological Seminary, the
UniversitC$t GC6ttingen and Vanderbilt University
earning three Masters Degrees and a PhD in New Testament Studies. Phil served as an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church,
Troy Conference, and as a secondary school and university teacher both in Germany and the United States. He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Sabine O'Hara; sons, Daniel
O'Hara of Washington, DC, David O'Hara and wife, Melissa Schettler of Washington, DC, Dennis O'Hara of Houston, TX; daughter, Melanie BC
husband, Johannes Mock-O'Hara of Hamburg, Germany; four grandchildren, sister, Barbara O'Hara Tagg and husband, Richard Tagg and family of Woodside, CA; and stepbrothers, Richard Stout of New Hampshire and Robert Stout of Bethesda, MD and their families. A memorial service celebrating Phil's life and ministry will be held at Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church, Washington DC on Friday, January 10 at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to consider donating to
the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
