RAY D. WALTON, JR. (Age 92)  

Of Frederick, Maryland (and a former resident of Germantown and Damascus) died April 8, 2013. Mr. Walton was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A field artillery officer, he received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his actions at Kakazu Ridge during the 1945 battle for Okinawa. Beginning in 1947 he worked as a nuclear engineer for half a century primarily with the Atomic Energy Commission (later the Department of Energy). In 2005 he received a lifetime achievement award from the International Waste Management Symposia. He is survived by his wife Frances Crabill Walton, six children, 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 13 at Homewood, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD (10:30 a.m.) and at Mountain View Methodist Church, 11501 Mountain View Road, Damascus, MD (3 p.m.).
