Decorated World War II Veteran, retired U.S. Postal Service and computer service company executive departed this life at his home in Takoma Park, MD on Friday, February 21, 2014 with his family at his side. Survived by four children, Sanford, Jr. (Bettye) of Dayton, MD, Janice Ames of Gaithersburg, MD, Jacquelyn Rice of Takoma Park, MD and Vincent Ames (Jacqueline) of Cheverly, MD; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Ames; daughter, Marion D. Ames of Denver, CO. Wake will be held at Albright Memorial United Methodist Church, 409 Rittenhouse St. NW, Washington, DC on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment Rock Creek Cemetery, Rock Creek Church Rd. and Webster St. NW, Washington, DC.
