SARA L. HINDEN


 

SARA LEOPOLD HINDEN (Age 84)  

On Tuesday, September 24, 2013, Sara L. Hinden of Chevy Chase, MD, was born on May 22, 1929 in New York City. She was one of 10 children born to Morris and Anna Schloss Traum. Mrs. Traum died in 1932. Mr. Traum died in 1933.
After the death of their parents, Sara and her siblings were sent to various children's institutions to be cared for. In 1934, Sara was adopted by Aaron and Blanche Leopold of Brooklyn, New York. The Leopold family later relocated to Belle Harbor, Queens, New York. Sara graduated from Far Rockaway High School in Queens, NY. Before her marriage, Sara worked as a secretary for Spartan Mills Inc. in New York City.
In 1953, Sara married Stanley J. Hinden of Belle Harbor, Queens, a reporter for Newsday, the Long Island newspaper. In 1970, when Mr. Hinden was assigned to cover national politics in Washington, the family moved to Potomac, MD. Mr. Hinden later joined The Washington Post. Mrs. Hinden began a career at General Electric Information Systems in Rockville, MD, where she managed the GE Training Center.
Mrs. Hinden is survived by her husband, Stanley of Chevy Chase, MD. Sara and Stanley have been married for 60 years. Sara is also survived by two sons, Alan (Gina) Hinden of Gaithersburg, MD and Lawrence (Denice) Hinden of Silver Spring, MD; plus a daughter, Pamela (Jennifer) Hinden of New York City. Grandmother to Sandy, Amber, Ted and Anna; great-grandmother to Devon, Phoebe and Phoenix.
Other survivors include sisters, Edith (Frank) Porpora, Jean Blechman and Paulina Goldenbaum, all of Florida, plus a brother Arthur (Jan) Traum of Las Vegas. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels, Rockville, Maryland. Interment will follow at Judean Memorial Gardens in Olney, Maryland.
