On February 28, 2014, Stewart Samuel Henley of Washington D.C., a Documented Original Tuskegee Airman, departed life at the Washington Hospital Center. Born in Washington, DC in 1924, he retired from the DC Public schools after serving 31 years as an elementary school teacher, science teacher and principal. He was preceded in death d by his beloved wife of 55 years, Laurette Branch Henley; his siblings, Rosa Henley Jones, Benjamin J. Henley Jr., Dr. Evelyn Henley and Reslyn Henley; and nephew, Ransellear Shorter. Survivors include his daughter, Laura Henley Dean (John); one granddaughter, Ariel Dean; sisters-in-law, Adelaide Henley and Jacqueline Hall (David); brother-in-law, Robert Madison; nieces and nephews, Gail Gathings, Benjamin Henley III, Lyn Henley (Barbara), Gary Hall (Jamie), Jeanne Madison and Juliette Little; his devoted caregiver, Vinnette Junius; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8 at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD until time of funeral service at 11 .am.
