THELMA M. RUMMELL (Age 96)
Thelma M. Rummell who taught school for 20 years at the former Brookmont Elementary School in Bethesda, MD died at the Methodist Home of the District of Columbia on November 12, 2012 of natural causes. Mrs. Rummell received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in elementary education from the Colorado College of Education in 1941 and 1945. She also served briefly as Assistant Professor of elementary education at Eastern Washington College of Education before her marriage in 1946. As a child growing up in rural Iowa, she was active in 4-H agricultural events. During World War II, she served with the U.S.O. In the 1960's, she was an active member of the Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church of D.C. teaching Sunday school. In addition to her husband of 66 years, Robert S. Rummell of Bethesda, MD, Thelma M. Rummell is survived by three daughters, Sherrie Kato of Ichinomiya, Japan, Patrice Rummell of Silver Spring, MD and Cynthia Rummell of Bethesda, MD. Her son, Douglas Rummell died during the Viet Nam War era. No services are planned.
