ZELDA K. VOGEL

 

ZELDA KORLAND VOGEL (Age 94)  

of Rockville, MD, formerly of Union, NJ, died at home on Thursday, January 24, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
Burial was at Mount Freedom Hebrew Cemetery, Randolph, N.J.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1918, she was a graduate of West Orange High School and she earned an undergraduate degree in French from Montclair State University. She was a French teacher at Union High School from 1963 until 1978. Upon retiring she became a literacy volunteer, teaching adults to read English. She was also a volunteer for Jewish Family Service of Central Jersey, and, in 1995, received their Volunteer of the Year award.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Goodman (Steven) of New York City and Martha Goodman (Nelson) of Bethesda, MD; four grandchildren, Andrew (and Allison), Daniel (and Colleen), Madeleine (and Tim) and Eli (and Nadia); and three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Kaitlyn and Benjamin. She was predeceased by Kermit, her husband of 65 years and a sister, Florence Freedman.
A Senior Prize for Excellence in French has been established in her memory at Union High School. Contributions may be sent to the Zelda Vogel Memorial Fund, c/o Capital One Bank, Magruder House Branch, 7340 Westlake Terrace, Bethesda, Maryland 20817.
