Joseph Sharps Obituary

Joseph’s Journey

Joseph Alonzo Sharps ,Jr. known as “Little Joe” was born on July 21, 1993 at Columbia Hospital in Washington, DC to Cynthia Kinard and Joseph Sharps. On Monday evening, November 8, 2010, “Little Joe” departed this journey at the age of 17 due to senseless and heartless street violence.

Joseph was educated through the District of Columbia Public School System. He attended Brooklyn and Gibbs Elementary Schools, Elliott Middle School and was a candidate for the 2011 Spingarn High School graduating class in Washington, DC. He was well known for playing basketball and football during high school and middle school and participated in the Lamond Riggs Recreation Team.

Joseph enjoyed Math and was an honor student during middle and high school. In 2004, Joseph received the “Edison Leadership Award”. He spent his leisure time with his friends as well his best friend “Bilbro” playing Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Often on holidays you would find “Little Joe” with his cousins waiting in anticipation to feast on his mother’s famous macaroni and cheese. Joseph was a Dallas Cowboy fan and enjoyed watching the Cowboys defeat the Redskins. He was also a Lakers and Yankees fan. Joseph always dreamed of attending the Cowboys vs. Redskins game in Dallas. Joseph was known for wearing his mix match socks in bright colors and watching ESPN. Joseph had the spirit of an entrepreneur and his long term goal was to own a sports channel. Although Joseph had a passion for sports, his desire was to be a commentator and not a participator in the game. Joseph was very candid in his conversations and was willing to share his ideas and thoughts to all who were willing listen.

Joseph leaves to cherish his journey; His parents Cynthia Kinard and Joseph Sharps of Washington, DC, his grandmothers Ruby E. Davis of Washington, DC and Elizabeth “Betty” Sharps of Hyattsville, MD, his sisters: Ashanti Sharps of Accokeek, MD,(Jelani & Jawea) Brittany Kinard of Forestville, MD,(Ty’lique, Brookland and Timothy) and Abrianna Sharps of Washington DC; (Aneesa) his brothers: Adrian Kinard of Washington, DC and Langston Sharps of Temple Hills, MD; his uncles: James “Dave” Davis Jr. of Hyattsville, MD and Albert Davis (Wanda) of Hollywood, MD; his Aunt Sonya Sharps of Riverdale, MD and a host of two nieces, 2 nephews, cousins, great aunts and great uncles and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James E. Davis Sr., and Joseph S. Sharps, and his uncles: Michael E. Davis and Roland Sharps.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I loved Lil' Joe as a younger brother and can not express the rage of emotion I feel. What keeps me comfort and sanity during this trying time are some of my most fondest memories of him. He will forever live in the hearts of those he has touched including myself. My family and I send our deepest condolences to you, the family and are only a phone call away. We love you.-Nia & Eris Doweary & family

He may have only been a senior in the earthly school here, but he now carries a Godly degree that the Saviour gives! His years here were short, but the day he was born, Jesus knew when he would be welcomed by the angels! The Lord bless you family. Stay strong. You WILL see him again!

Cynthia I have not have contact with you for many years but I am deeply saddened by the loss of your son at such a young age. No one knows why bad things happen to those so innocent and whose life has hardly begun. I am praying that you will find the strength to get you through your grief and sadness.
