David Liem Obituary
David SingSioe Liem
Dr. David Liem returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 11, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Francisca Liem of Potomac, MD; daughter, Marcella Liem Stewart, (Douglas); and grandson, Calvin of Albuquerque, NM. Born in Indonesia, he came to the United States in 1964, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in Herpetology, and worked for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a scientific (toxicology) reviewer for 27 years. Dr. Liem discovered the gastric brooding frog, a new genus in eastern Australia. Other Australian scientists continued working on this genus and named a species after him. He has published scientific papers on herpetology. Dr. Liem has lived in Indonesia, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Saipan and the US. Friends may call at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD 20854 on Friday June 23, 2017 at 10 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Interment All Souls Cemetery.
