Professor Slack really cared for all of us the students and always encouraged us to succeed. I will miss him greatly and the memories created will always be treasured in my heart. Rest in peace Professor Slack, I hope we make you proud.

On February 22nd I climbed the old papal fortress steps of Castel Sant'Angelo atop the fortress stands the Archangel.. I snapped a picture and sent it to John. I can now add goodbye my friend I will visit you often…..watch over us and keep us safe………… I know who you are….I always did. Part of the charm and complexity with John was the fact was forever a common man with uncommon talents. Talents that Sister Teresa saw in him and tutored him early too break his misconceptions about learning. She in her own way help forge the man I knew and who stands on my shoulder now. Always be prepared, always find the high ground, and always keep your eye on the long term goal. As a young football hero he insisted on having 16 season tickets for the men that lived in the ally; with a hot dog at each game. Yes he stands on my shoulder today as sister Teresa sat on his.

When John and Margaret would come home to DuBois to visit his father Rudy and my mother Evelyn, we would play cards to all hours of the night. John loved to go fishing. John always had a smile on his face and was forever kind. May God hold his family in the palms of his hands in this time of sorrow.
