CHARLES HERZFELD Obituary
Dr. CHARLES M. HERZFELD (Age 91)
Renowned scientist, national security expert, and businessman peacefully died at home in Silver Spring, MD on February 23, 2017. The cause was complications from multiple strokes. Dr. Herzfeld is survived by his wife, Shannon S.S. Herzfeld; three sons from a previous marriage, Charles C. Herzfeld (Paul Rogers), Thomas A. Herzfeld and Paul V. Herzfeld (Valerie); grandchildren, Steven Herzfeld and Katie Herzfeld; two step-daughters, Rose Shuman and Rachel Shuman (Alex Banks) and her two children, August and Henry. Viewings will be held at Gawler's Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC, 5 to 8 p.m., and Thursday, March 2, from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be performed at Grace Episcopal Church, 1607 Grace Church Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20910 on Thursday, March 2 at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Dr. Herzfeld's name to the Diver's Alert Network (www.DiversAlertNetwork.org).
