RICHARD BRADY Obituary

RICHARD A. BRADY (Age 79)
Senior Counsel at Covington & Burling LLP, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2013 surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Newark, NJ and graduated from Yale University in 1956 and Yale Law School in 1959. Dick spent his entire career as a tax lawyer at Covington & Burling, in addition to serving on active duty in the United States Army during the 1961 Berlin crisis. He was a trusted advisor to many clients over his career. Dick took special pride in mentoring young lawyers and was known by his colleagues as a thoughtful teacher. He was an avid reader of history, a world-class oenophile, and a devout Catholic. His greatest joy was spending time with his family at their house in Bethany Beach. Dick is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Tink); four children, Cecilia Brady of New York, NY, Kathleen Brady of Fairfax, VA, Andrew Brady and Joshua Brady, both of Chevy Chase, MD; and five grandchildren, Gavin, Colin, Amelia, Ava, and Grayson.  Viewing will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 from to 6 to 8 p.m. at Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC. DEar Tink, and dear children and grand children.

These joyful photographs say everything about Dick as beloved Pater Familias, from the wickenly winsome boy on the bike to ultimate grandfather, surrounded by his rapt listeners.

Perhaps this is Dick at his very best, reading to the children, in his own inimitable voice. How lucky they are.

I love the photo of Dick the Host, What memories! Oh, those wine inspired gourmet dinners in the sixties, and seventies, with glorious roast beef or fondu and carefully chosen wine and fabulous conversation far into the night. Never would I bring up a political issue- not to say nightmare- but Dick would enlarge upon it and untangle it with wit, wisdom and humor and another idea to chew on.

However late he stayed at the office- and in those early days regularly very late indeed- Tick was always there waiting up with good food and attention and time to talk and talk.

Truly, Dick and Tink have long been a shining beacon for me and so many friends; simply put, for years they've been showing us how to get it right.

Beyond our heart's grief, we will be reliving, cherishing and relishing our memories of Dick, distinguished and determined; Dick the night owl, Dick the passionate student of politics and person -hood, life long friend and mentor, and Strategizer par Excellance.

"May choirs of angels sing thee to thy rest."

With love and prayers,
Starr
