ELENA GRANT CAHIR (Age 37)
Elena born September 26, 1975, Pasadena, CA, and died June 22, 2013, Arlington, VA. Survived by husband Michael P. Cahir; daughter Carol; parents Maria and Richard Grant; sister Gillian Grant; parents-in-law Mary Alice and Michael B. Cahir; brother-in-law Matthew Cahir. Elena was a dedicated educator. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 5312 N. 10th St., Arlington VA on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Consortium of Catholic Academies, Archdiocese of Washington DC (www.catholicacademies.org).

My daughter Saule had the great fortune of having Elena Cahir as a math teacher during Second Grade at Eaton Elementary School. Elena also served on a team that ensured my younger daughter would be able to access help that she needed to suceed in school. Words cannot adequately convey my appreciation for all of her efforts on behalf of my children. I also remember fondly the conversations we shared about motherhood and the joy in her face when she talked about Carol. I want to express my condolences to her family. Thank you for sharing such a special person with all of us, especially all of the children whose lives she touched and changed. I also want her beloved daughter to know that nothing in the world made Elena more happy than becoming "Carol's Mom".

Elana's positive upbeat outlook is an inspiration to us all. I was always so glad to see her hanging out in the cul de sac. I knew a good time and great conversation would follow. Her spirit lives on in all of us and especially in Carol.

I heard the news this afternoon and am just in shock to learn of this terrible loss. Elena was my colleague and friend at John Eaton Elementary School. She was such a beautiful, caring, intelligent human being, and I am so sorry that she is gone. Gone but never forgotten. Love you Elena. My heart goes out to Mike, Carol and the entire family.

Dear Sweet Elena,
We know you mostly through your dear sweet sister Gillian, and the images and stories of you and your family that she regularly shared with us. As the universe unfolds as it will, you and your sister were brought into our lives and we are thankful for that experience.
Just one week prior to losing you from our Earthly world, your sister Gillian was encircled within our own loving family of friends who have been with us along our own adventures through life.
Please know that we will continue to be committed to loving, supporting, and hugging Gillian as long as we are blessed to be able to do so. Though no one can replace you as her sibling, we dedicate ourselves to being the most powerful 'brothers and sisters' we are capable of.
