Judson R. Mills

MILLS JUDSON RIDGWAY MILLS (Age 76) On Thursday, May 1, 2008. Judson Ridgway Mills, PhD, Professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park, suddenly at his home in Lanham, MD. Judson Mills was a professor of psychology for fifty years. An experimental social psychologist, he wrote numerous theoretical and applied articles and was the advisor to many doctoral students. Dr. Mills was born in Chicago, Illinois to Judson Ridgway Mills Sr. and Lillian Ericson Mills. He grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1953. He earned his Ph.D. degree in social psychology at Stanford University, in 1958. Professor Mills had taught at the University of Maryland since 1971. Earlier he taught at Syracuse University, the University of Missouri, the London School of Economics, and the University of Texas at Austin. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Li Yun "Lili" Mills of Lanham, Maryland, his son Ridgway Mills of Washington D.C., and stepson Ding Feng, of Jinhua, China. His marriage to Carol Bergfeld Mills ended in divorce. Visitation for Dr. Mills will be on Wednesday, May 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BORGWARDT FUNERAL HOME, 4400 Powder Mill Rd, Beltsville; where funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 8.
