BUTLER ALBERTA BUTLER Alberta Jeanette Charlotte Cassell Butler is now in the presence of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She passed from this life on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. A lifelong resident of the District of Columbia, she was married to the late Francis E. Butler and was the first of two black women to receive a degree in Architecture from Cornell University. She was also one of only two women Naval Architects in the country. Alberta belonged to the distinguished AKA sorority, the Association of Scientists and Engineers (U.S. Navy) and the Association of University Women. She is survived by her daughter Mira "Kai"; and son-in-law Noel Shanks of Bowie, MD; one grandson Che Coble of Wheaton, MD; brother and sister-in-law Charles I. and Linda Cassell; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 2 from 10 a.m. until time of service 11 a.m. at Nineteenth Street Baptist Church, 4606 16th St. N.W. Interment Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by McGUIRE.
