John Roulet Obituary

John T. Roulet
Passed away on Saturday March 19, 2016 after living a full and accomplished 93-year life. One of the Greatest Generation, he was born on September 26, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York. He served as a Radioman First Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII before his career in radio and television at RCA, the Voice of America and the U.S. Information Agency. After an early retirement, John pursued his second career as a jazz drummer playing with John Thomas and The Dixie Six, Southern Comfort, the LaSalle Dance Orchestra, Wild Bill Whelan Dixieland Band and the Buck Creek Jazz Band.He felt his greatest accomplishment was his family, to which he was devoted. He was a loving husband to Barbara, his wife of 59 years. Together they raised a family of five children: Jeannie (Ray Minchak), Kathleen (Dan Rice), Anne (Ferguson), Michael (Clare Roulet) and Patrick (Rachel Roulet). With major parenting responsibilities fulfilled, he and Barbara traveled the world, performing on Jazz Sea Cruises and at jazz festivals, attending ship reunions with his U.S.S. Bangust friends, and enjoying the happy times spent with their 11 grandchildren Kate, Kelly, Sarah, Colleen, Luke, Bridget, Shannon, Maureen, Charlotte, Celia and Maya. Friends may visit on Tuesday, March 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd. Fairfax, VA 22032. March 22, 2016

Jeannie, Kathleen, Anne, Michael and Patrick, I am sorry to hear of your father's death. Your father and mine were kindred spirits through family ties and their love of music. In your note to my mother, Jeannie, you spoke of your father's fond ruminations on Jack even in his last days. I suspect they are playing great music right now! I bet if we lean our ears skyward and listen very, very carefully we can hear them! May great memories tide you through your grief. My thoughts are with you. Yours, Amy Thompson-West (Jack and Aggie's daughter, your cousin)
