It is with great sadness to see and hear of the passing of Harold. He was my best friend for 51 years. My family and his family had a very close bond over those many years. I first met Harold when we worked together in Atlantic City at the FAA's evaluation center. I got married and had two sons there and Harold and Mona had their twins there. We moved to Virginia in 1964 and Harold who had been working in Northern NJ took a job in Washington and when they were house hunting we suggested they consider the house being built next to ours. They liked it and bought it. For twenty years we were close neighbors.
Over the years Harold and I got involved in real estate investments together. Several of them turned sour but Harold always remained positive and our friendship endured thru some bad decisions on my part.
Harold was always a dedicated and disciplined jogger and exercise guru. When my wife, Lois, bought a house in Florida, Harold and Mona would come an visit for a month or less. We would ride our bikes around a circle. I would be happy with four times around but Harold would do six times.
Harold was always a dedicated Christian. He believed in the Great Commission and volunteered to got out Sunday nights to visit any potential new members who had visited that Sunday.
The Hollands and Ottosons had many good times together. Sometimes sharing a Thanksgiving Dinner or Christmas Dinner.
Harold's wonderful laugh will also be missed. He was an upbeat person who enjoyed life to its fullest. His wife was great, his kids were great and his grandchildren and great grandchildren were also great. Harold was proud of them all.
So it is with a personal sadness that I will miss my best friend but I know he goes to a better place and the pain and frustration he had to endure is now over.
