CDR, USN (Ret.)  

Commander Henry C. "Hank" Bowman, USN (Ret.) 82, of Warrenton, VA on January 26, 2017 at Fauquier Hospital. Born in Chicago, IL on January 13, 1935, he was the son of Henry and Gertrude Bowman.
In the Navy, he was first stationed in Pensacola for training, then at Moffett Field in California before embarking on the USS Hancock. Afterwards, he was transferred to Glenview NAS where he served as public information officer. He was on the USS Kitty Hawk the Far East Cruise, and then stationed at Whidbey Island, Washington, his next assignment was the Pentagon before going to New York where he worked with returning POWs from Vietnam. He returned to the Pentagon where he was the head of the Public Affairs Office before his retirement.
He was also the editor of the Redskins News and creator of numerous Redskins cartoons. After retirement, he volunteered at Great Falls Park for several years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Marlene M. Bowman; two daughters, Margaret Anne Bowman Gray and Cathlin Aine Bowman-Young; two grandchildren, Christine Lynne Duvall and Barron L. Gray; three great-grandchildren, Ashlin Duvall, Brandy Duvall and Avery Gray.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joanie Bowman and Nancy Meisterling. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1 from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Moser Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow before interment with Military Honors at Culpeper National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fauquier Senior Center, 430 E. Shirley Avenue, Warrenton, VA 20186.
