My daughter and I are both graduates of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School where Andrew attended for one year. We extend our condolences to his family. Such a senseless act for doing nothing wrong! Please know I let the Listserve @jewish silver spring.org which has many Jewish members who have lived or partially live in the mid-east, ie Israel or who now have children currently living in Israel who under how dangerous at times it can be in those parts of the world and who understand how courageous as I feel your son who was brave and courageous to attempt to want to improve and educate the children of the Egyptian people. I was very impressed with the YouTube poetic script Andrew and another (I gather) Kenyon student of Arabic/Muslim descent performed. I thought it was well done and brilliant. May God sustain and elevate his soul and may all be continued to pursue peaceful, mediating ways who knew your son and his efforts at improving Arab/Israeli/Jewish relations.

I read about Andrew in The Chicago Jewish News and was so moved and touched by this loss. While I would never presume to know your family's agony, I can say that my son Danny walks such a similar path, I cannot stop thinking about much your son. Danny, also very active in the Hillel at Whitman College, spent his semester abroad in Amman, and while still very much Jewish-identified, has committed himself to Palestinian humanitaran rights. Their journey was so similar! It makes me feel on a certain level, I know your son, and as a mother, I know all of you. I offer you my very sincerest condolences. I am certain, from the bottom of my heart, that Andrew was a most amazing young man.

I am so so sorry. Even though we really only met last year at Kenyon, you really stroke me as a great guy. Fun, simple, smart... and someone who lived to the fullest...I will always remember you Andrew. What happened is not fair, and there is nothing I can say to your family that will ease the pain, I can only thank them for educating you and letting you BE... the life you had is the life that many people wish they could have.
