Aris John Peterson  "A.J."  
On Thursday, March 8, 2018, of Bethesda, MD. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace; his daughters Stephanie and Valerie (Corey Anton) and many nieces and nephews. He was a long time resident of the Palisades community of Brookmont, MD, where he was active in local civic activities especially to protect the community from overdevelopment and to preserve its natural beauty. Born in Canton, OH, on April 16, 1927, of Greek immigrants, he took great pride in his Hellenic heritage and tradition. He graduated from Canton McKinley HS where he and his beloved sister, Mitzi, competed in debate and speech competitions. He earned a dual degree at Ohio State University (1949) and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Chicago for graduate studies in labor economics (1951). During his federal career, he served at the Department of Commerce, Export-Import Bank and Department of Education. Upon retirement he was support associate for American Express. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 36th St and Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20007, from 10 to 11 where Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
