Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.)  

Eugene F. Callaghan, 89, of Easton, MD and Monmouth Beach, NJ died on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 in Red Bank, NJ. Eugene "Gene" was born in Lawrence, MA to Eugene F. and Kathryn A. Callaghan on March, 23, 1923. After graduating from high school he attended Dartmouth College in 1940. In July of 1941, he received an appointment to West Point. He graduated on June 6, 1944 and was commissioned a Second Lt. In the Army Air Corp. He married Marjorie B. Sullivan in 1945. While serving in the Air Force and raising a family, he attended the Harvard Business School, graduating with an MBA in 1953. After serving his country for 22 years, Gene retired from the Air Force in 1966. He then worked in private industry until 1973 when he rejoined the government first in the Department of the Interior, then the Peace Corp, and finally for the Department of Energy. He retired for the second time in 1988.
Eugene was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie and his son, Eugene F. Callaghan III. He is survived by his children, Patricia Gareau, Dennis, Kevin and Joseph Callaghan and Marjorie Whitlock, their spouses and 28 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Col. John Callaghan, USA, Retired, Lt. Col. Donald Callaghan, USAF, Retired and Marion Callaghan.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 9 a.m.
