He also volunteered his time at the Clarke County Public Schools, serving one term as President of Boyce Elementary School PTA. He and his wife were members of Berryville Kiwanis; St. Bridget Catholic Mission Church; and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. They also belonged to the Senior Citizen Bowling League in Winchester. Even into his 90th year, he and his wife were enthusiastic hikers at Skyline Drive.
